Can you really dry your curls using a Sieve?
In short, the answer is yes. Since we've seen this method trending on Tiktok we thought we'd help explain why it works and how to do it!
The sieve works in the same way as a diffuser in that it helps to disperse the air from the hair dryer. The bowl of the sieve helps cup the hair during the drying process which helps the curls to form as it lifts the curls into place.
A direct blast of a hairdryer would break up the curls. A more dispersed flow of air is better for curls.
One thing to be careful of is heat. Metal conducts heat and the sieve will get hot quickly. We recommend keeping the hairdryer on a cool setting, or a medium heat setting along with using some heat protect spray.
Here's how to do it...
Step 1
Shampoo your hair using the All Curl Cleanser and rinse thoroughly.
Step 2
Comb All Curl Conditioner through your hair, so that curls are detangled whilst wet. Rinse.
Step 3
Apply the Hydrating Curl Creme into soaking wet hair. Comb the product through with your hands and scrunch upwards towards your scalp. This will squeeze out any excess water and scrunch your curls into shape.
Step 4
Scrunch dry with a microfibre towel or old cotton t-shirt (sounds strange but it really helps reduce frizz). Hold each scrunch tightly for a few seconds and release.
Step 5
Apply Enhancing Curl Gel for definition and shine. Apply using your hands, then scrunch to encourage bounce.
Step 6
Grab your sieve and tip your hair into the bowl. Lift up to the roots and turn on the hair dryer applying the air under the bowl. Use a low heat setting as the metal of the bowl will heat up! Hold for about 20 seconds and then move onto another section.
What we like about this viral trend is that it's helping people rediscover their curls. If you don't own a diffuser then it's great to give this method a try! However we found it to create uneven curls and more frizz than a diffuser.
So if you already have a diffuser attachment then we recommend you stick with that. It really is the best drying method as the air flow has been designed specifically for curls, and the nozzles help get the air into the roots for a faster drying time.
