"Squish to Condish" - What's it all about?

If you’re just starting out on your curly journey, you are bound to hear some unusual curly words and phrases. “Squish to Condish” is likely one of them. A simple technique that gives amazing results, it’s definitely one you’ll want to add to your wash day!

All of us with textured hair experience frizz to some extent. This fabulous method will tame the frizz before you even start to style your curls, and it will help the curl clumps form beautifully. (Another unusual term! Curl clumps are when your hair gathers or clumps together in thicker strands. Bigger curl clumps mean bigger curls and better definition.)

The Squish To Condish Method

Your conditioner really is the star of the show with this technique!

After washing your hair with the Cleanser, apply our All Curl Conditioner, using a good amount to nourish the hair.

Flip your hair upside down and smooth the Conditioner through your locks. You can also detangle with a wide-tooth comb at this point - it’s a great way of easing any stubborn knots and tangles as the Conditioner helps the comb glide through easily.

Once your hair is thoroughly moisturised, add a little more water and gently squish your hair with the Conditioner in it, using your hands to scrunch the hair upwards. This mix of water and conditioner should be well scrunched into your hair to keep the curls fully hydrated and to combat any frizz.

Your hair should start to have a smooth, seaweed-like texture. Repeat this process of squishing more water into your curls a few times until your Conditioner is rinsed out. You’ll start to see those lovely curl clumps form right before your eyes!

Styling Curls After Squish To Condish

After the Conditioner has been rinsed out, continue with your usual styling routine.

We recommend applying our Hydrating Creme straight after rinsing out the Conditioner, when your hair is still soaking wet. This locks in even more moisture to minimise frizz.

Gently scrunch your hair with our soft Microfibre Towel to reform the curls, before applying the Enhancing Gel or Mega Hold Gel for long-lasting results.

The postpartum period brings a host of changes to your body, including your hair. Many new mothers notice their hair goes through significant changes, particularly if they have naturally curly hair.
